I’ve realised the quirky things that make you different are what make you beautiful.” ~ Lily Collins.

Despite the more recent talk about “being you” out there, I still meet a fair amount of folks who seem uncomfortable with embracing their inner quirkiness.

Part of the issue is that after years and years of hiding the parts of us that we were told we needed to hide, it can be difficult to let them out of the invisible cage that lives outside our visible bodies.

My suggestion for getting back in touch with the good stuff outside the cage? Go outside a few times for short intervals. Then go outside for a little bit longer. Get reacquainted with that neat part of you, then hold hands with each other and bust out of the cage together! Kind of like being your own action hero.

And don’t apologize for that quirkiness.

If anyone ever calls it out in an attempt to make you look bad, just say thank you so much for noticing and move along. I’ve had this happen to me in a few situations, usually when I’m offering something that encourages folks to try something new. At first, it can be startling and feelings of “who the hell I am do be doing this?” might cause your face to get all flushed and your heart to get all palpitating. Keep your eyes on the prize. Those folks are inside a cage inside a cage and want to get you back into yours ASAP!

That’s why I call all my programs “untraining,” got to undo a lot of the self-muffling training we all received as we marched (or were marched) into adulthood. Soon you’ll be saying, “Thanks but, I’ll taking over my own life trajectory at this point.”

I found my happiness outside the cage and hope you do, too!
